William Tell is a legendary Swiss folk hero, renowned as an expert crossbowman who defied Austrian tyranny in the early 14th century. Forced by bailiff Gessler to shoot an apple off his son’s head as punishment for disobedience, his success and subsequent killing of the tyrant helped spark the Swiss Confederacy's uprising.
